What can I expect in my first session?
The first session is focused on us getting to know each other and building rapport. We will review the confidentiality provisions of the Informed Consent for Individual Clinical Psychotherapy, and ensure that your intake form with contact information is completed. After that, we will discuss your family system (e.g. names and positions of family members), review what brings you to psychotherapy, and begin discussing therapeutic goals.
Do you work with people who are not athletes or public safety personnel?
Yes.
How long are sessions, and how often do we meet?
Sessions are typically 50min long. Session frequency is typically once weekly to begin, and moves to less frequent over time. Research shows that individuals who attend treatment once weekly in the early stages of psychotherapy have better outcomes than those who attend less frequently.
Do you offer in-person sessions or virtual sessions?
Both in-person and virtual sessions are available.
What approaches or therapeutic modalities do you use?
I am trained in a variety of psychotherapeutic modalities, however I tend to gravitate towards Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Solution-Foucsed Brief Therapy. Modalities tend to shift based on the presenting concerns.
How long does therapy typically last?
The duration of treatment is individual-specific. You have autonomy to discontinue treatment at any time.
