Bio

Sports and athletics have shaped my life from an early age. As a child, I spent countless hours playing hockey, riding my bike, and water skiing. In my teenage years, I also developed a passion for weight training and martial arts.

My coaching journey began in 1993 when my brother and I trained a youth martial arts tournament team. I continued teaching martial arts until 2013, studying Kosho Shorei Ryu Kempo, Jiu-Jitsu, Kung Fu, and Tae Kwon-Do along the way.

In 1996, I stepped onto the bodybuilding stage for the first time. My physique was ready, but my posing wasn’t. Attempting Arnold Schwarzenegger’s iconic poses at 154 lbs was a lesson in humility. But I learned, adapted, and found my niche in Men’s Fitness competitions. That perseverance led to multiple titles, including two-time Natural Mr Fitness Canada, Natural Mr Fitness Universe, and Natural Mr Fitness Olympia. After retiring from competition in 2000, I continued coaching physique athletes in posing and routine development.

In the late ’90s, I earned a diploma in Fitness and Lifestyle Management, covering anatomy, physiology, exercise prescription, injury prevention, and rehabilitation. I then pursued an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology while working fulltime as a personal trainer.

The early 2000s brought my greatest challenge; a motorcycle accident that left me with injuries from head to toe. After more than two years of rehabilitation, I went from relearning how to walk properly again to squatting my pre-accident best of 500 lbs. While my heavy-lifting days are behind me, the drive remains. I’ve since completed a full marathon, several half marathons, and multiple duathlons. I still lift and occasionally get back on the water skis.

Beyond athletics, I’ve dedicated over two decades to helping others. I’ve worked in social services with a focus on dispute resolution and conflict coaching, served nearly ten years as a volunteer firefighter, and was a member of After The Call, a critical incident stress management team for first responders.

Since 2014, I’ve volunteered with the Peterborough Hockey Association in various roles, including Coach, Trainer, Manager, and Executive Member. I am a Development 1 Certified Hockey Coach and a Development 1 Certified Field Evaluator, helping assess and mentor other coaches.

In 2023, I decided to level up again by pursuing a Master’s in Counselling Psychology. I am currently on the Dean’s List and working as a student therapist, combining my experience in athletics with the science and art of psychotherapy. Now, I support current and former athletes in navigating performance, identity, and personal growth.
